The Yellow Butterwort (Pinguicula lutea) is a terrestrial, perennial herb that has basal-leaf rosettes. Insects are trapped on the viscid leaf surfaces of this carnivorous species.
Since this plant prefers low pinelands and savannahs, it is occasionally seen growing along the shoulders of sandy roadsides.
This pictured flower was one of several observed near Catfish Lake in the Croatan Forest of eastern North Carolina.
