The Water Plantain (Alisma subcordata) is also called the Mud Plantain. It is an emersed (rooted in wet sediments) perennial that shows up in shallow water and mud flats. Wide-spreading branches and tiny flowers combined with unique leaves contribute toward easy identification.
Just why some people are curious about names of various plants is no mystery to me. It is obvious that most humans are fascinated by the innumerable forms and colors exhibited by nature. How better to enjoy forests and fields than to know something about nature lore?
