On a hot and humid mid-July day back in 1973 I was in quite a dilemma: what to do about this rare local orchid species that I had found in full bloom. How was I to photograph this unusual discovery so as to justify its beauty? Since the plant was too tall to be included in one photographic shot, the floral details would be lost in the distance. I seated myself precariously on a jutted rock and lit a favorite cigar. The delightful smoke from my cigar quieted my nerves and defended me from the attack of aggravating mosquitoes and gnats. Ah! A photographic threesome did the trick.
