The Purple-flowering Raspberry (Rubus odoratus) is a shrub with erect or arching branches. On the road leading to the top of Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County, Virginia, this species is well established along several stretches of rocky woods and borders. The unique feature that surprises most young naturalists is its showy color, and the fact that it is a thornless member of the Rose family. It blooms in June-August.
