On a field trip to some upland, moist meadows we were pleased to see several Canada Lilies growing within a short distance apart. Although a couple of the lilies were an orange-red, I chose to photograph the red specimen. Several Canada Lilies were also spotted here and there on a nearby mountain bald.
I had long been familiar with our piedmont and mountain Turk's-cap and Carolina Lilies, but this red Canada Lily was a special treat. Just as in stamp collecting, adding new flowers to one's photographic collection begets a spirit of personal satisfaction.
We were in a high mountain area west of Mountain Lake in Giles County, Virginia.
